If you set the so-called Active Hours in Windows 10, you won’t be interrupted by annoying update messages. We’ll tell you how to tailor the feature perfectly to your needs.

Set Active Hours in Windows 10

Active Hours, or hours of use, is when all notifications and restarts due to Windows updates are disabled. New updates are also not installed during these times. For example, you can spend the entire workday undisturbed at the PC.

To set Active Hours, first open Windows Settings with the key combination [Windows] + [I].
In the new window, click on the „Update and Security“ category.
In the „Windows Update“ tab, select the „Change time of use“ entry in the „Update settings“ section.
Finally, set the start and end time of your quiet time and close the settings window. Note, however, that the usage time must not exceed 18 hours.

Find and install updates on Windows 10

Open the Windows 10 Start menu and select „Settings“ from the gear icon.
Select the „Update and Security“ category at the bottom, it will take you directly to the Update feature.
Click the „Check for updates“ button here, and they will be automatically downloaded and installed.
For larger updates, Windows will then alert you that you need to restart your PC.
